Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
